Challenges

Before using Planet, Hero faced three specific challenges:

Setting up country-specific free gifts

Hero was committed to avoiding generic campaigns. They wanted to personalize incentives based on the customer’s country, offering different gifts to shoppers in Portugal and Spain.

But turning that plan into a functional campaign was more complicated than expected:
Shopify didn’t allow easy segmentation of promotions by country—let alone the ability to offer different free gifts per region. A simple need, with no simple solution.

Controlling the cart experience

The free gift was added to the cart as a product with a price of €0. This posed a risk: if customers could change the quantity, they could add multiple free units. For Hero, this not only impacted the promotion’s logic but also hurt the brand image.
That’s why they chose to disable the quantity buttons and the option to remove the gift, ensuring a smooth, coherent, and error-proof user experience.

Incentivizing without discounting

As a well-established brand, Hero didn’t want to get caught in the discount war. Their challenge was to raise the average order value without harming their positioning or margins.
